Since 1971, an IBM 1130 computer was commissioned inside the premises of P.G. Department of Physics under the initiatives of Professor B.B.Deo, marking the establishment of Computer Centre of Utkal University. The above computer was one out of eleven such systems installed in the country at that time. Besides meeting the academic use of the people all over the state, the computing facilities have also been used for non-academic purposes by the ORISSA State Electricity Board, Rourkela Steel Plant, FCI Talcher Heavy Water Project, Talcher and CRESSIDA etc.

ACTIVITIES OF COMPUTER CENTRE :

    1.Preparation of monthly salary and arrear bills for all the University Employees.
    2.Preparation of monthly pension of all the pensioners/family pensioners of this University.
    3.Preparation of wages of daily wages of University
    4.Imparting training to the Teaching and Non-teaching staff of the University.
    5.To provide assistance to students of different P.G. Departments and sponsored courses for using computers
    6.Calculation and maintenance of G.P.F. Accounts of the staff of the University.
    7.To provide computational facilities to the faculty members and Research Scholars of the University.
    8.Extending the laboratory facilities to the students of different sponsored programme.
    9.Calculating Income tax of employees of this university.
   10.Actively associated with e-Governance Project of this University.
   11.Actively associated with U.G.C. Infonet Programme
   12.Actively associated with Edusat Programme
   13.Developed & Maintaining the University Websites

Working Hours :
               Computer Centre remains open from 7.30 A.M. to 8.30 P.M. The working hours for the staff of the centre are as follows :

7.30 A.M.  - 2.00 P.M.  - Ist Shift
2.00 P.M.  - 8.30 P.M.  - 2nd Shift
10.00 A.M. - 5.00 P.M. - with lunch break for office.
